The Charente-Maritime is located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine, formerly known as Poitou-Charentes.
With more than 450km of coast, many hours of sunshine and a rich history, this department is ideal for rest and discovery!
The Charente-Maritime generally has dry hot summers with always a sea breeze and warm temperatures in the low season… so you can enjoy the beach and excursions for a long time, both during the summer holidays and on weekends!

Between land and sea … this means a large choice of trips! Our campsite Au Port-Punay is located near the beautiful sandy beach of Châtelaillon-Plage et the department has many others with a total of 150 km of beach along its coast: Grand Village, La Côte Sauvage …
campsite is located opposite the 4 islands of the Charente-Maritime: Ré, Oléron, Aix and Madame, one even more beautiful than the other! Some islands can be reached by car, others only by boat, by foot or by bicycle. You are very welcome at reception for more information about what you can do on the islands.
Several fortresses can be visited in our department, however the most famous fortress is Fort Boyard! By boat you will get close to the fort and you can admire this old prison up close. Tickets are available at the reception, this way you’re sur to take the boat !
Architecture enthusiasts can also indulge themselves in the Charente-Maritime: Romanesque churches on the route of St Jaques de Compostelle, such as in Talmont sur Gironde. The amazing gallo-roman amphitheater in Saintes where many people watched the fighting between gladiators in the 1st century AD.
On a nice warm day, you can find peace and coolness in the Marais Poitevin, marshes that stretch over 3 departments: the Charente-Maritime, the Vendee and the Deux-Sèvres. Here you will discover the beautiful nature by boat and understand why this area is also called The Green Venice.
You can also visit castles here! The castle of La Roche Courbon and the beautiful French gardens. The Castle d’Usson, better known as the castle of riddles where your children can do a fun treasure hunt while you can enjoy the architecture!
And then the delicious food! Here you can enjoy the specialties of the Charente-Maritime: the millat charentais, melons, snails, mussels of the bouchots, the oysters, the jonchée, cognac and the Pineau des Charentes … At reception we can advise you on THE places to go !
